Projects & Energy

Our Insight

Lin & Partners’ energy practice is unique among local law firms in Taiwan because of its breadth (from traditional energy to renewable energy) and the fact that it has been a specialty of Lin & Partners for over a decade. Because of this expertise, Lin & Partners has been lead advisor in Taiwan for established and emerging energy companies as well as large international conglomerates.

By advising Taiwan Power Company in several major research and restructuring projects, Lin & Partners became, early on, a pioneer in the energy market in Taiwan. This energy practice was strengthened after 2017 when the Taiwan new Energy Act came into effect and allowed private parties to operate power plants. At that time, Lin & Partners developed additional expertise in advising foreign/Taiwanese energy companies to acquire or partner with other companies to enter the Taiwanese energy market, expand abroad or bid for new projects together.

Notably, in the renewable energy sector, Lin & Partners has provided comprehensive legal advice and services to the leading local offshore wind farm developers in their bid for the feed-in-tariff (“FIT”) and the government’s power purchase agreement (“PPA”), as well as offshore wind project developments.

In the aviation and shipping sectors, Lin & Partners has been advising on various regulatory, licensing and contractual matters, including those related to offshore wind farm projects, such as shipbuilding, reflagging, and financing. In 2022, Lin & Partners successfully assisted a European client in reflagging a wind farm working vessel, which was a first in the history of Taiwan’s wind farms.
