Lin & Partners, a leading Taiwan law firm to global corporations, financial institutions, and government agencies, announced today that it has been selected as the legal counsel to represent the MRT Engineering Office, Bureau of High Speed Rail, Ministry of Transportation and Communications (“MRT Engineering Office”) in its dispute with the contractors relating to the construction of Taoyuan International Airport MRT (“Project”).

The Project – a mass rapid transit railway between Taipei and Chungli through Taoyuan International Airport – was chosen as one of the major national infrastructure projects of Taiwan, and will commence trial run in February 2017. Due to the complexity of the Project, however, the construction underwent extensive delays and incurred significant additional construction costs. MRT Engineering Office has sought to resolve the dispute with its contractors arising from the delay in the construction of A2 (Sanchong) Station to A11 (Kengkou) Station.

Lin & Partners was selected among eight bidders as the legal advisor through a rigorous tender process, and will represent the MRT Engineering Office in its legal proceedings with the contractors. “Our firm has committed to government projects, and this victory reflects our strength in construction and infrastructure practice. We will continue to leverage our experience and expertise to provide our client with quality services”, said Dr. George Lin, founder and managing partner of Lin & Partners, who will lead the firm’s construction team to participate in the Project, assisted by senior counsel Robert Lou.

Lin & Partners is unique among law firms in Taiwan in that it maintains dedicated practice groups for infrastructure & public procurement as well as government affairs & public policy. Apart from the MRT Engineering Office, the firm also advises, among others, Ministry of Transportation & Communications, Financial Supervisory Commission, Taiwan Power Corporation, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Taipei City Government, National Taiwan University and Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport Co., Ltd. extensively on both contentious and non-contentious matters.
